USF Student Housing

Project Location:  San Francisco, CA

Client:  University of San Francisco

Description:

USF Student Housing is 2 student dormitories nestled on the east side of Lone Mountain in San Francisco. The buildings are terraced as they ascend the hillside and are divided by central, walkable paseo. The paseo terminates on a hammer head on the north side of the site providing spectacular views of the city and the bay. The classic aesthetic of the architecture is highlighted by a drought tolerant, contemporary, Mediterranean landscape that sprawls out over the site. The dynamic nature of the site lends itself to cascading meadow planting balanced by more refined expressions surrounding the buildings.

The project boasts 5 on structure, podium courtyards, each with a different theme: Reflection, Commune, Lounge, Play and Study. The courtyards juxtapose modern design aesthetics in one instance, and dense woodland planting in others. A bocce ball court, wall fountains, and a plethora of seating options for quiet reflection and intense group study balance out the spaces.
