Project Location: San Bruno, CA

Client:  Sares Regis Group of Northern California

Description:

For years, San Bruno lacked a thriving downtown. A bustling, walkable district was notably absent from the area and several buildings along El Camino Real and San Mateo Avenue had fallen into disrepair. To help the City reclaim its downtown, Sares Regis Group transformed an old movie theater into an 83-unit, mixed-used residential building. The first new construction in more than ten years, the City of San Bruno named it the most significant development of the decade.

The small podium courtyard features a tiered artificial turf area with a wooden cube cabana and concrete seating blocks. An outdoor kitchen and lounge seating further invite the residents to mingle and relax. The angular design of the podium is mirrored in the accent paving and corten steel planters, creating a thoroughly modern space.
