This mixed-use urban space is at the heart of Downtown Oakland’s Redevelopment. The plaza creates a central gathering place for the downtown area and provides a pedestrian promenade which connects BART the Federal Building, Preservation Park and beyond. Constructed over an existing parking garage, the plaza presented significant load bearing challenges overcome with careful design of paving, plantings and art placements. The central fountain and sculpture provide colorful focal points to the promenade and plaza. Other projects in the area include 555 City Center, 1111 Broadway, City Center Garage West, and Block T-10 (under construction) all of which connect to this true urban spine fostering vitality in Oakland’s downtown core. |
