Built on the 12.8-acre site of the historic Del Monte Cannery property in San Jose the community consists Cannery Square, 236 condominiums over a garage structure and of Madison Place, 156 towm homes.

Amenities in the community include a small park with a bocceball court, picnic tables and BBQ area. An extension of The Los Gatos Creek Trail was installed as a part of the community and borders the site to the east. Multiple pedestrian connections to the creek trail through and from the community are provided. A plaza, serving as an entry to the Los Gatos Creek Trail system, features interpretative signage for the Los Gatos Creek, the Bike Trail, and the Cannery property. The water tower, portions of walls and various other features from the old cannery have been preserved around the site with plaques and interpretive signage at each feature. Minutes from downtown San Jose, Monte Vista offers convenient access to major Bay Area freeways. The community is within walking distance of Diridon Station and the project itself will have a VTA light-rail station. Two associated transit plazas serving the community and adjacent neighborhood are in place awaiting the new station.
